The 2012 Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame

Honoring the class of 2012

Wayne Thomas Frye
Annapolis graduate who won a Gold Medal in 1952 Olympics. Flew 266 missions in South East Asia and earned two silver stars. Retired and went on to serve his community on the Fleming-Mason Airport Board.

Fred Keller
EAA champion builder of Rutan’s Defiant. He designed his own STOL, which he built to such exacting standards that the judges awarded it Grand Champion – even after Keller crashed it in a field at the airshow.

Dave L. Rogan
A pilot for more that sixty years, severed in combat during WWII, worked the family mining supply business, made films in E.Kentucky for the Walt Disney company and built and enjoyed one of the first houseboats on Norris Lake.

Col Douglas B. Yates
A truly extraordinary Air Force aviator, graduated 2nd in his USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training class, flew 177 combat missions over North Vietnam, developed critical combat tactics, wrote standards manuals, served on the Inspector General team.

The 2012 Aviation Achievement Award will be presented to
Stuart Powell of Danville Kentucky for his work in promoting aviation in Kentucky
